Vicar's Letter - June
Dear friends,
By Sunday, 31st May, we will have held our Annual Parochial Church Meeting, where we will, amongst other things, have had the opportunity to reflect on the life of your church, here, in Hightown, over the last year. It has been a busy one as the reports testify, but also a good one, and we thank the Lord for his continuing care and provision. We will have had the opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to those who have worked tirelessly for St Stephen’s, not just over the last year, but over many years, and also, ‘thank you’ to those who are taking on new responsibilities this coming year. Thank you!
Thursday 4th June, sixty days after Easter, the Thursday after Trinity Sunday, we have the feast of Corpus Christi when we give thanks for the Eucharist, for Holy Communion. Thank you, Lord. We will hold a special service at Church on this evening. The Latin words ‘Corpus Christi’ translate to the ’Body of Christ’. At every Eucharist, we share the Body and Blood of Christ, as Jesus instructed, ‘Do this in remembrance of me’.
On 25th June, I will have been with you for three years! Where has that gone? I remain grateful to God for calling me to serve here in Hightown. Thank you, Lord. Sharing together, we have achieved much in that time…. But there is still much more that we would like to do.
The day after Friday 26th sees Revd Gordon Watt’s Diamond Jubilee of his ordination. Sixty years! Thank you, Lord. We will be celebrating with Gordon and Rosamund on Sunday 28th when Gordon will preach at the 10:30 Eucharist which will be followed by cake and prosecco!
We have so much to be thankful for, we truly do.
‘Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus’.
1 Thessalonians 5:18.
God Bless
Keith
